While studying with us you will have the chance to use our Virtual Learning Environment. Keeping in touch with your lecturers and classmates from home or work is now possible at any time that suits your timetable. The service is also used as a central hub to let you know what is happening in and around the College, including event details, student-specific news, and a range of other things to keep you updated while studying with us.
The College has been recognised for its innovative use of technology by JISC RSC, with several staff members gaining awards at the annual Hi5 eLearning awards.
The College’s Virtual Learning Environment has been in existence for five years. It is an educational platform that enables staff to deliver Study Programmes and courses to their students in a dynamic and flexible way, both during guided learning hours and away from the classroom.
It is an integral resource for the VLE community to access up-to-date resources, personal-learning plans and find the latest news and events.
Users can also form their own communities, such as the College’s Student Union and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender groups. More recently the College has developed a community for new students who can access vital pre-enrolment information, contact details, and discuss topics with each other using a linked New Student, Parent and Carer forum.
The College’s commitment to e-Learning is further supported by recent investment in wireless technology. The Xiirrus Array super router (used at a Microsoft conference) is capable of connecting to over 4000 phones or computer devices at the same time and allows students to access the internet anywhere on site.
